All Good Things Come To An End

The Cubs nine game away and five game winning streaks came to an end today as they fell to the Marlins 2-1.  Sean Marshall look good except for the two long balls he served up but that was all the Fish needed to beat the Cubs today.

The clutch hitting that had been so plentiful these last few weeks was sorely missing today as the Cubs left 12 men on base.

The Cardinals won today as they work their way back into this divisional race and the Brewers were down 2-1 in the top of the fifth in L.A. at the time of this entry. So the Cards are 6.5 out and the Brewers 5 out.  Let’s hope Alyssa’s Dodgers can make it two in a row against the Brew Crew. Next Century Is Here.

Late Inning Bomb By Ward Does It

For the Cubs, everything was going the way it had since July 2005 when in Florida against the Marlins; they were losing.  In fact it was the top of the ninth and the Cubs were down 5-3.  DeRosa waited out his third walk of the day.  Then Lil’ Babe (Fontenot) hit a shot to third that was snagged for the first out.  Step up to the plate 0-3 Reed Johnson who parked a base hit into left field.  DeRosa went to second and the table was set for Daryle Ward. D.W. had been struggling a bit as a pinch-hitting, in fact I was counting the out and doing the; two out, two on, who’s up next bit in my head, when all of a sudden Ward rockets one into the right field seats and it’s 6-5 Cubs.

Wow! What a game.  Some early scoring, Big Z struggles for the third time in a row, the bats were pretty much silent but there when needed and we actually had a save situation.  Wood made the bottom of the ninth interesting by putting two on before striking out Jacobs for the final out.

The win puts the Cubs 5 games up on the Brew Crew, who at the time of this entry in the top of the first inning were up 2-0, against our own *touch* ‘em all Alyssa Milano’s Dodgers.  Come on Dodgers!!!!!!! Next Century Is Here.

Cubs Put Fans On Emotional Roller Coaster

I don’t know about anybody else but I am emotionally spent.  After giving up sole possession of first place yesterday I was starting to worry about possibly coming out of Milwaukee down by five games and potentially in third place. I know it is still early in the season but the lack timely offense lately has taken the wind out of my sails. Emotion = low.

Then as the game got underway I thought; Marquis has been pitching pretty well lately.  If we can win today, even if the Brewers win, we go into Milwaukee tied.  Thats what you want; play the teams you are in contention with and hope that your team is the best and comes out on top. Emotion = even.

Florida takes a 5-0 lead.  Emotion = low.

Brewers take a 4-1 lead.  Emotion = very low.

Cubs put two on the board. Emotion = guarded.

Cubs add 3 more in the next inning to tie it.  Emotion = optimistically even.

Florida comes right back with a solo home run and ties it.  Emotion = low

Astros put a big crooked 7 up in the top of the 5th against the Brewers. Emotion = high.

Bottom of the 7th Derrek Lee goes yard to tie it. Emotion = like the score even.

Same inning bases load, Little Baby Ruth hits a high deep fly to left field.  Since the outfield was playing relatively shallow, it’s a bases clearing double and we go up by three.  Emotions – very high.

In Milwaukee, top of the 7th the Stros do it again, adding 3 more and going up 11-5.  Emotions = super high.

Ninth inning back in Chicago; Samardzija retires the side as he watched Jim Edmonds stretch out in a horizontal to the ground dive and catches the third out.  Samardzija getting his first Major league save smiles and pumps his fist.  Emotion = goose bumps very super high.

I start typing in my blog.  Emotion = coming down to earth.

As I’m typing, in Milwaukee, Prince Fielder pops out for the final out and the Brewers go down 11-6.  The Cubs are in Sole possession of first going into the biggest  series of the season.  Emotion =  guarded high.

Finished my blog and the MLBlog site times out and I get the error page.  I sign back in and none of my work was saved?  What happened to auto-save? Emotion = frustrated.

Re-enter my blog; maybe it’s better this time.  Nobody reads this but me so who cares anyway? Emotion = tired.

End result; Cubs won a big game and took care of business.  The series against the Brewers is going to be tough; I’m hoping for a split.  I’m a complete certifiable basket case for taking this game, this seriously, this early in the season.  Next Century Is Here is looking eerily similar to last century.  Emotion = nuts.

Cubs Have No Bats

Short and sweet:

Harden pitches great AGAIN, gets a no decision.

He gets no run support.

Marshall comes in and pitches well.

We can’t hit.

Don’t expect the Brewers to loose two in a row against the Astros.

Tie for first.

DeRosa was out at first.

Maybe Lou loosing his mind will get these bats swinging.

It seems like forever ago since the Cubs were playing good baseball.

I’m really starting to get pissed off.

Cubs Break Ten Game Slide Against The Fish

The Cubs with the help of Zambrano’s arm and bat beat the Florida Marlins and by doing so put an end to a ten game slide against them.  They also stay one game ahead of the Brewers who are absolutely on fire.  Sweeping the Cardinals in a four game series in St. Louis and wining their eighth in a row.

After trailing two to nothing, Ronny Cedeno got the Cubs on the board with a solo home run. Then the Cubs added four in the fifth with help from none other than Aramis Ramirez who, with the bags loaded, got a two RBI double and is showing signs of coming out of his slump by going two for four. Later Blanco went yard which meant both homers were hit by substitute players.  More positive karma?

As far as defense, what about the diving catch by Reed Johnson Mark DeRosa in right saving what would have be a bases clearing double or possibly triple. The only weakness in the game today was the pitching of Carlos Marmol, who actually showed sign of the good and bad Marmol by walking three and striking out three.  With Wood on the disabled list someone in the pen is going to have to step up and take his place. Could it be the kid from N.D., Samardzija? Only time will tell, he is on a plane and headed to Chicago as I type.

Today was a fun game, tomorrow we have Dempster. Let’s see if we can string a few together against a team we’ve had trouble beating.  Remember, Next Century Is Here!
